Anandapally, Pathanamthitta

If you dont mind being a part of a wild sport that is high on raw energy, time your visit to Kerala for when Maramadi takes place.

A post harvest festival held in Kerala, Maramadi or bull race, is a much anticipated event in Pathanamthitta’s village of Anandapally. The paddy fields here are taken over by a number of units comprising three men and a pair of oxen for the festival held in the month of August-September. It begins in the sweltering heat of the afternoon and continues till dusk. Daring participants, egged on by excited spectators, form a lively presence as the race progresses. Accidents are prone to happen but that does not dampen anybody’s spirits.
